Supporting Non-Profit Organizations

Did you know that New York State has over 30,000 non-profits, or 10% of the nation’s 300,000 non-profit establishments?  If you are an administrator of one of these agencies doing critical work in healthcare, education, human services, the arts and more, you know your services are highly valuable. But the challenges you face programmatically and fiscally are continuous.

Using a consultant for fund raising is common.  But think about using short term consultation during staff or administrative transitions. Do you have a new project or grant and need an interim professional to get things started and manage/supervise the work until you can hire? Perhaps you have experienced the sudden departure of a key staff member or supervisor and you don’t have staff who can do the work on top of what they’re already doing. Or what about someone to assess and implement your staff development and training needs?

A valuable consultant should understand the non-profit world and how organizations increasingly have to accomplish more with less.  They can help you overcome obstacles so you can improve internal functioning and the quality of your services.  A consultant should listen to you, help you conceptualize ideas and do the work with you, to the extent that you want. Consultants should be client-centered and able to facilitate discussions that will move an agency from status quo… to something more.
